I saw Obama

I saw Barack Obama yesterday at the Polk County Convention Complex in downtown Des Moines.
When Hillary came to Iowa a few weeks ago I could not go, so finally yesterday I saw my first American politician meeting. It was too short. When the audience started to make more and more questions, the meeting was over.
I did not like the first questions, everything was very programmed. It looked like they have programmed a series of questions for the beginning, but probably it was just my impression.
I really liked the last questions made by a little child, who asked about Obama´s favorite president and since when did he want to become president of the United States.

I am going to China

Yes, it is official, I am going to China in May! I am so happy! It is incredible, I am going to be in three continents in just one year: Europe, America and finally Asia. This is going to be my first trip to an Asian country and I can not wait until May.
I have decided to write a blog about this experience, so all my friends, family and future China tourists can see how things are going! I have called the blog "Rita is going to China," it is going to be in English, so most of the people will understand.

Papers and more papers

This weekend I spent most of the hours writing papers for my Honors 48 class and thinking about some project ideas.
I have decided to write the major paper for this class about two environmental problems that happened in Spain; the catastrophe of the "Prestige" and the fires that took place in Galicia during last summer. I think both of them were very important and I can introduce these topics to my class, which probably do not know about it.
In my JMC 59 class I have to take more pictures of Mars Cafe. I am happy with the pictures I took for the previous assignments, but after the professor open them in front of the class, I realized what things I can improve. For example, I did not do any good portrait.
For my JMC 98, I am going to do with another classmate the web page of the final project, that is going to be "Working in Iowa." I will like to do a project closed to "The Ancient Way" but I think it is going to be hard.
And the last one, and the hardest one, my JMC 119. The result of the text was awful. I think it is going to be hard to have good results in this class, but I hope I can developed a good magazine idea in the next few days.
About the weekend, the funniest thing was a birthday celebration and the purple butterfly that my friend was wearing during most part of the night.

Spanglish

Sometimes I meet some friends from Drake and we do an exchange language conversation. They teach me English and pronunciation and I teach them some Spanish, things about Madrid and Spanish culture.
I really like it, because I learn a lot and I can ask a lot of questions about things that sometimes I think are weird.
After our conversation I had a "Magazine Publishing" exam and I think I did it really bad, I think it is my worst exam since I am at Drake.

A great weekend

Last weekend I went to NY! It was great. I love this city, the places, the people, everything! Why? Just because you can see people from everywhere living together, there are beautiful places to visit, you feel free walking on the streets, Broadway is there, Columbia is there, Chinatown is there, Central Park is there, Imagine is there...
I arrived on Friday, I met my friends, I went to have dinner with them and we did a small tour.
On Saturday we went to the Empire State building. The views from the top of the building are great, but it was freezing to stay there for a long time.
We took a walk around 5th Avenue and Central Park, and we visited the Yankees shop, the FAO Schwarz toys shop and the Apple store.
On Saturday evening, we went to see the musical "The Lion King." It is great, probably the best musical I have ever seen.
And finally, on Sunday morning we went to visit Columbia University, where it is one of the best journalism schools.

Another busy week

Yes, it was another really busy week. I have too much homework, and I am doing to many activities, but if I do not do them, I got bored, so I can not complaint.
I was reading a couple of books: "If I live to be 100" and "Walden." I think the last one, most of the people in my class have already read at High School, but I did not. Probably it can be weird, but I did not know about Henry David Thoreau before.
I have written two stories and they have being published! The first one is about the premiere of "Volver" at Des Moines, and it was published at "Drake Digital News".
The other one is about the documentary "A Little Salsa on the Prairie" that talks about the arrival of Latinos at Perry, a city in Iowa. It was published at the Times-Delphic. It is a very interesting movie.
Yesterday I went to see "The Phantom of the Opera" at Downtown, at the Civic Center. The play was great. I was very lucky because after the play one of the workers of the musical gave me a tour through the backstage and I was at the stage, and I felt like an artist.
And finally the weekend is coming and tomorrow I am going to New York again! Yes, it is the third time in the last year, but a Spanish friend has come to see me from Spain and I am going to see her. I think it is going to be freezing, but I am sure we are going to have fun.

Estuve leyendo un par de libros: "If I live to be 100" y"Walden".

Watching movies

In the last three days, I have watched three movies in the theater. I went on Friday to watch "Babel," on Saturday I watched "Venus" after the game vs. Creighton, and on Sunday I watched "Freedom Writers."
I really like the last one. It tells the story of "Room 203 at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California, where an idealistic teacher named Erin Gruwell faced her first group of students, dubbed by the administration as ´unteachable, at-risk" teenagers´."
In the case of "Babel" I think it is a very good movie too. I really like the way in which the director shows the problems that occur in different countries, and how all of them can be connected, no matter how far one country is from the other.

JMC 59 assignment

I was working on an assignment for my JMC 59 class. I had to take pictures of two different topics, four of each one, explain how I took the pictures, and in my opinion which one of the four is the best.
I decided to take pictures in the basketball game on Saturday. Drake played vs. Creighton, and we lost. We did not play very well, but I think my pictures were fine.
The second topic I chose was the Brooklyn Bridge, in NY. I took the pictures in November, when I visited the city with some friends during Thanksgiving break.
